Happy Christmas

Dear Team and Supporters,

Just a quick note to you all to wish you a very happy Christmas and peaceful New Year. There won’t be any training on Wednesday judging by the plummeting temperature again tonight. However,  we can thoroughly recommend a trip to the sledging slope near Frodsham...it was great today (if  you need a reminder of  directions just give Simon a ring)

Robin is in the process of organising an indoor venue for next weeks training (Christleton High) We will confirm things asap but please leave the 29th Dec (7-8pm) in the diary.

No snoods on anyone’s Chriatmas list...they are banned for the Jets in 2011.

Best wishes

Kick off will be 2pm so we will need to be there for 1.30pm warm ups. Parents who can help put nets up please try to be there for 1.15pm. Please let either of us know if you can’t play Sunday.

Frozen footy news

Dear Team and Supporters,

Some of the more eagle eyed of you spotted that we weren’t down to play Malpas last Sunday but instead try to get our previously postponed cup game played against Saughall. Just as well...as my tactics would have had to change at the last minute! The saga looks set to continue with sledging and figure skating taking precedence.

This coming Wednesdays training is off. The astroturf is frozen solid. Next Sundays game against ....yes....Saughall is currently in doubt. There is a thaw forecast for Friday...but it might not come in time. Please watch this space and let us know if you can’t play....

AFC Waverton Jets V Saughall Colts (Westminster Cup)

Dear Team and Supporters,

Training tonight at 5.45pm (Upton). We are now sharing the training pitch with the Waverton U9’s  (Carl Roberts’ team) every other week. This will help to cover a proportion of the training pitch fees which will certainly be welcome.

We have just come to the end of our first 10 weeks of training so we need to ask for a second instalment towards pitch fees. Can you all bring £30 (ideally cheques payable to AFC Waverton) tonight or on Sunday. This will now cover more than the next ten weeks (I will confirm details shortly)

On Sunday we have the first round of the prestigious Westminster Cup. We are at home against Saughall Colts (not Clots as I originally spelled it) The game will kick off at 2pm so please be there at 1.30pm at the very latest. Robin and I would certainly appreciate some help with putting the nets up.

AFC Waverton Jets v Blacon Youth

Dear Team and Supporters,

Frustrating day yesterday....lovely and sunny but a boggy football pitch. Hope you all got the message before turning up....sorry Nikki!

Training will be on no matter what the weather...5.45pm Wednesday at Upton.

Our match on Sunday is against the league leaders Blacon Youth at home. Kick Off is planned for 1pm so please be there for 12.30pm warm ups. Nets will need to go up so if there is a possibility of some help that would be great.

See you Wednesday

AFC Waverton Rcokets V AFC Waverton Jets

Dear Team and Supporters,

This coming Sunday sees us “away” against the Rockets.  KO will be 1pm at Waverton so please make sure you are there for 12.30pm warm ups.

It came to light yesterday, after a chance discussion in the boot room with my number 2, that the Jets are the second top scorers in the league this season.....we have played very well these last few weeks and regained a little bit of pride. We need to continue on our winning ways this Sunday and express ourselves the way we know we can. Complacency is not in our vocabulary.....

Please let Robin or I know if you can’t be there.

We shall be playing in pink.

Big Thank You

Thank you very much for the kind gifts for Jan and i and for LLoyd. Lloyd will treasure his shirt in fact its up on his bedroom wall as a great reminder of the 6 years of footy- he's now helping me coach Ali's team, he say's theory is easier than practice (how dare he). I thoroughly enjoyed my time coaching the Jets and hope you go from strength to strength. Our succesful double and the exciting DVD from the Thompsons & Co will be memories treasured forever.
Your in great hands with Simon and Robin, Good Luck and see you soon.

Training

Dear Team and Supporters,

Tough day Sunday. Didn’t get much sleep Sunday night.....but had a few thoughts in the early hours Monday. Nothing too profound.....

Firstly....I was very impressed by how you kept playing for each other....your spirit and commitment is unquestionable. Secondly....we only had 10 fit players and they had 11 and sub. Thirdly.....on the day they were better than us. At 11 a side weaknesses are exposed...massive pitch, massive goals, more players, skilful and strong. We have to begin to build a strong unit from the back to attack. ...and with more training and hard work we will do.

Training will take place at Upton Sports Centre 5.45pm- 6.45pm. Can you do your best to get there please. Let Robin or I know if you aren’t able to. Lifts could be arranged if required. Can you also bring a cheque payable to AFC Waverton for £30. This will cover the cost of the training for the first 10 weeks.

Thanks

Simon

Training- the final chapter!

Dear everyone,

This is becoming a farce....

I have now been told that our training slot on a Wednesday is actually 5.45pm -6.45pm as originally communicated. Therefore if you are able to come tonight, after all the messing around, we shall be training on pitch 2 from 5.45pm.

I can only apologise for this ...even though I was given duff information. It pays to check with the Sports Centre directly!

If you can’t make it tonight I fully understand....but if you can I will see you there. From now on our training will be at 5.45pm to 6.45pm on Wednesdays.

Thanks

Simon

Training update

Dear Team and Supporters,

Sorry to bombard you all with emails today.

I have just had confirmation of the training pitch availability at Upton Sports Centre.

Our available time slot has changed to 6.45pm-7.45pm. I hope this will still be ok for the vast majority of us.

The cost of the pitch comes to £27.50 for the hour each week. I plan to ask all parents (whose children are available on Wednesdays) to contribute for the next 10 weeks. I can then ensure the booking is secured, we don’t have to faff around in the dark taking subs, and no one is left out of pocket. I trust this is ok with everyone?

Can you confirm by email if you are available so I can then work out how much we all need to contribute. It would really help Robin and I if we don’t have to chase replies. It will work out at approx £2-3 per session. A cheque made out to AFC Waverton can then cover the training fees.

Training will take place on pitch 2 at Upton Sports Centre (on the Astroturf pitches  off Mannings Lane – opposite side of the A41 to Upton High School) this Wednesday at 6.45pm. Please note that you will need trainers only.

This option will allow us to train throughout the Autumn/Winter.

Simon

Training

Dear Team and Supporters,

It sounded as though you acquitted yourselves really well last Sunday in a hard fought and physical encounter away at Blacon. Those goals for may count at the end of the season so really well done for keeping going and showing the Waverton Jets grit and determination....along with some excellent skills. It really is about how we learn and develop from these occasions as a team.

We are in the process of trying to secure a Wednesday evening (5.45pm-6.45pm) slot at Upton Sports Centre (on astro turf/floodlit) for training. This will be a really important statement of intent for the team. Training will help us improve as a team and individuals prior to aiming for success on a Sundays. There will be a small charge for the training pitch which we hope to secure on a block booking. I will let you know progress on this as soon as possible.

This weeks training will take place on Wednesday at 5.45pm venue to be confirmed by email as soon as possible.

Thanks

Simon

First fixture

Dear Team and Supporters,

Some more news about our first match at home (Waverton Village Hall) against AFC Waverton Rockets this coming sunday. We shall be kicking off at 1.30pm promptly. 30 mins each way. Our match official is a chap called James Tucker. The Rockets have agreed to wear bibs (they will bring their won as for some reason they didn’t want to wear our pink ones!)Please all be there for 1pm warm ups. Some help to put up the goals etc would be very much appreciated. I aim to be there from about 12.45pm.

Just to confirm a few more bits n bobs. I won’t be able to attend our next game (12th Sept away at Blacon) due to work commitments. I also have to miss matches against Upton (home) on the 3rd October and Vickers Cross (away) on the 10th October. These are the dates for my FA 1 Coaching Course. Robin will be taking charge on these dates. Apologies...but I think you know where I’d rather be!

If you have any questions give Robin or I a ring.

See your Thursday at 6.30pm (Christleton)

Waverton Jets U11's pre-season plans

Dear Team and Supporters,

Just a quick note about our pre-season training plans. This coming season is going to be a tough challenge for us all. Eleven-a-side rules, bigger pitches, bigger goals....you name it. To give us a fighting chance of success from day 1 I want you all to do a few things before we meet up again.

1.       Get fitter and stay fitter- I would like you all to think about getting out on your bikes, doing some light jogging with your parents, brothers/sisters and friends (not necessarily all at once), play some sport, go swimming etc etc....you will all be a lot sharper if you can do this over the next month. We will be testing you in the first few training sessions....so be warned!

2.       Practise your ball skills- extend yourselves. If you can do 10 keepy uppies.....make sure you can do 10 more by next week. Practise using a tennis ball against the wall.....practise your passing and shooting in the garden (away from the greenhouse!) There is no escape.....practise to improve. My new coaching manual tells me that, on average, elite sportsmen and women require 10,000 hours of practise to reach the top!

I am also pleased to announce that Robin Parkinson has agreed to help me out with coaching the team. I would also like to thank others for their kind offers of help in the coming season.

Finally our first training session will be on Wednesday 25th August. Not everyone will be about, but for those that are....we will meet at Christleton Primary School for 6.30pm (til 7.30pm)

Have a good holiday

Jets V Blacon

Dear Team and Supporters,

We have to lift ourselves from last weekend’s disappointing performance to face another tough task at home against Blacon this Saturday. The warm up will start when you wake up...visualising goals, great tackles and the return of the Waverton Jets “never say die” spirit.....it’s been understandably lacking in recent weeks.

Stretches and stuff will start at 10.30am and kick off 11am.

Come of the Jets!

Malpas V Jets

Dear Team and Supporters,

This Saturday sees the Jets take on Malpas away from home in the historic surroundings of Carden Park...famous for its ancient trees, vineyard, golf course and, of course, luxury spa treatments. If we win on Saturday I am led to believe that the Boss is treating the entire team to a mud bath and facial.....ok just the mud bath. This fine and world renowned treatment  involves sliding around on a wet and muddy pitch, winning the ball fairly and passing crisply to one of your team mates. Prizes will be awarded for the muddiest Jet.

Kick off is 11am so please be there for 10.30am ....clean boots etc.

Hope you win...
