Hope your Christmas festivities are going well. I haven’t been able to contact the sports centre today so I am suggesting we cancel training until next week. Have a good New Year celebration and we will see you all in 2013.

Dear Team and Supporters

Please keep a close eye on emails and the website www.afcwaverton.com in the U13 tab because training may be cancelled this Thursday if the temperature doesn’t rise. I will check at 4pm tomorrow (or sooner if its obvious) and put a note out. No game this Sunday...we will keep everyone posted over Christmas and try to organise perhaps an indoor training session if the weather stays cold.

Frustrating but at least a few injuries may heal!

Game off (again)

Dear Team and Supporters,

After the heavy rain overnight to inspect the pitch this morning. It is marginal – there are heavy and boggy patches  and there is currently more rain falling. On balance we have decided to call the game off to protect the pitch for future games. Our next game may not be until after Christmas now but we will keep you posted. Training will be on as usual unless a hurricane hits.

On Sunday we are home at Barrow against JFC Upton. There will be a pitch inspection either Saturday pm or Sunday am so can you please make sure you check out the website/emails before you set off. Good result for us yesterday- came home a bit deflated having not gone all the way....but isn’t it fantastic to be thinking that after a game against Blacon! Our next game is a tough away encounter with Groves Athletic. More to follow.

We are keen to try to keep training on the grass for the time being even though we have the astro turf booking available for us. Whilst not ideal we needed to make the block booking for winter. So for the next few weeks we do plan to train at Waverton Thursday 6-7 unless there are strong feelings to the contrary.

Kit delay

Dear Team and supporters

Just so we can manage expectations a bit – unfortunately it is likely that our new kit won’t be with us for the first game of the season. Very frustrating considering when we ordered it... but there we are.

Therefore we will need to dust off last season’s kit- which for some may be a little of a squeeze and for others, who don’t have one, we are trying to get hold of some spare tops in time. Please bear with us.

 

See you at training 6pm Waverton village hall not Upton as originally advertised. We will train on grass this week in advance of our big opening game against Blacon Youth. We will announce the squad for this game on Friday.

 

With 17 in the squad we will ensure that everyone gets a fair run out this season and will be running a similar squad rotation. 17 players is more that the maximum number we can take to any one game and to ensure that we aren’t constantly chopping and changing on the day we will aim to take 14/15 players each week.  It is really important to us that if you are feeling left out you must speak to one of us about it at training. Conversely, if can’t make a game in the weeks ahead then please tell one of the coaches as this will be a space for another squad member.

 

As I’m sure you can imagine, it is a really tough juggling act but we have a really good squad and want to maintain a great spirit in the tough season ahead. Everyone’s support with this is greatly appreciated.

We have been asked to use the Barrow playing fields pitch this season for our home venue. This would take the pressure off the large Waverton pitch and allow us to have more control over the KO times for our home matches this season. One of our parents is involved with the Barrow playing fields committee so this is also a real help to us.

This would mean that all of our home games will be played there. For those of you who don’t know the village it’s a lovely spot and pitch is good but it is a little further to travel. If lifts are required this can easily be arranged.

Hope this will be ok for everyone. We will sort out directions for those of you who don’t know the area.

Fixtures for September

The new season is now upon us so we just need to let you know about the first couple of fixtures.

·         Sunday 9^th September we shall be playing at home  vs Blacon Youth (Waverton large pitch) KO 2pm. We shall meet at 1.30pm but any help beforehand with the nets would be very much appreciated.

·         Sunday 16^th September we are playing Groves Athletic away- venue and time to be confirmed

·         Sunday 23^rd September we are planting JFC Broughton  at home KO 2pm

There are no easy games this season- but this will be a great test for us.

Dear Team and Supporters,

We hope you’ve all had a great summer and are ready for the new football season ahead. Hopefully you’ve all been playing a bit of beach footy or at least made it down to the park a few times. Our fitness levels need to be higher this season.

This Thursday (23^rd) we are training at Waverton Village Hall from 6pm- 7pm. Please get there 5 mins early if you can because this year we want you properly warmed up and stretched before we are due to start at 6pm. Bring a drink.

From Thursday 6^th September we will be back at Upton Sports Centre on the astro turf (pitch 5) Unfortunately our block booking is at the same time this season 5.45pm – 6.45pm. We realise how early this is for some of you and apologise it couldn’t be later. These sessions allow us to do over winter training (floodlit and all weather) until March 2013. The first month is played in summery conditions but after the clocks go back we are thankful for a bit of lighting.... and if we don’t book it now we would lose our slot altogether.

As a result we need to ask you to contribute to the cost of the pitch so please can you let us how £20 either this Thursday or next for the first 10 week block. Ideally cheques payable to AFC Waverton please.

Training schedule

There won’t be training this Thursday (2^nd) because of holidays. We are not sure about the 9^th or 16^th either yet but please keep an eye on the website as we will advertise it there. There will definitely be a session on Thursday 23^rd Aug (6-7pm Waverton Village Hall)

During this Olympic period...please be inspired to do any sport that a. Makes your heart beat faster  b. doesn’t injure you for the coming footy season!

Kit order

Dear Team and Supporters,

Many thanks to you for getting the registration documents through. Looks like we have a team for next season now!

Training is on from 6pm tomorrow at Waverton Village Hall. There may be a few new faces along so let make sure they are made very welcome.

We are about to order our new kit for the forthcoming season. Can you let Simon know your sizes if you haven’t done so already...otherwise we will guess! Also if you want to order a winter training top (recommended in the rain, ice and wind to come) then they are approx £35. Please let Simon know if you want this adding to the order. Dear Team and Supporters,

This coming season we are able to replace our rather thread bare and in some cases very tight-fitting kit.

To this end we need you to send your size for top, shorts and socks to Simon as soon as possible please. Make sure you leave a bit of growing room!

Team registrations- deadline 18th July

Dear Team and Supporters,

This is our final call for registration documents before the deadline of the 18^th July. They can be posted any one of the coaching team. If you are unable to forward your documents before this time then you must let one of us know as soon as possible. Could you also let us know if you are not planning to rejoin us next season as this will help with our planning. Cheques need to be payable to AFC Waverton and make sure your photos are glued down firmly.

Team registrations

Dear Team and Supporters,

Just a quick reminder about registrations documents for next season. These will need to be with Jason, Robin or Simon by 18^th July or ideally sooner. Unfortunately we are losing some players for next season but will  be inviting one or two new members to the squad. We are sadly losing Phil Koutson, Chris Castle and Jamil Ahmed – we would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their fantastic commitment and contribution both in training and matches.

Pre-season training will start in August and our fixtures will probably start the first weekend after the boys are back at school in September. We will be ordering a new kit so the sooner we have full confirmation of who will be playing next season the better (along with their preferred kit size and squad number)

Saturday

Dear Team and Supporters,

This coming Saturday we are meeting at 11am at Waverton Village Hall for a match and trophy presentation. Currently the weather forecast is decidedly iffy so we plan to finish the session with a visit to The Plough.

Can the boys team come in their Waverton kit...can the rest of the world come in blue? (ideally Everton kits)

On Saturday 23^rd June (11am) we are planning to hold a lads v all comers football match and Division 2 Champions trophy presentation. Currently we are planning to use the smaller pitch at Waverton. After the game (depending on the weather we can either have a picnic or swift visit to the pub)

Squad and details for Sunday

Dear Team and Supporters,

This coming weekend we are competing in the Blacon Youth Tournament at Cairns Crescent, Blacon.  We are only allowed to take 10 players for this 7 a side competition.

 

There will be Car Parking for team managers/coaches at Cairns Crescent and there will be additional parking at Blacon High School for other members of your group (This is a short walk away). Marshalls will direct you.

 

There will be refreshments on sale during the day.

 

The address for the tournament is as follows: Cairns Crescent Playing Fields, Cairns Crescent, Blacon, Chester. CH1 5JF.

 

There are dressing room and WC facilities on the ground but we recommend you come in your kit and with a hoody or jumper.

 

Please can we meet at 10.15am at the venue. Those selected need to bring plenty to drink (and perhaps a couple of £ for additional refreshments), sunhat, suncream and sufficient food for lunch. We are not exactly sure what time it ends as that will depend upon how successful we are on the day. If anyone has a sun canopy/windbreak and rugs/chairs to sit on we would recommend it.

Training and tournament

 

Dear Team and Supporters,

There is training this Thursday at Waverton 6-7pm. Can you keep an eye on emails and the website.

This coming Sunday 27^th sees the team play in the Blacon Youth Football Tournament. We will take 10 players and we need to register at 10.30am. First game 11am.

We will announce the squad on Friday and also forward more details.

Training and tournament

Dear team and supporters,

On the 27^th May we have entered the Blacon Football Festival Tournament. It is a 7 a side competition and we are allowed to take 10 players along on the day. We don’t have timings yet but it is likely to be from the morning and possibly run over into the afternoon if we progress as anticipated!

At the moment we only have 5 players confirmed....those people who haven’t let us know but are available pleased drop Simon a line asap.

We are holding a training session from 6pm on Thursday 24^th May in advance. Please can everyone try to attend even if you aren’t able to play in tournament.

By next Thursday we will also have possession of the Division 2 Champions Shield and trophies for the entire squad. We plan to host a match one Saturday after whit and possibly a BBQ afterwards....we can present the trophies on the same day. Any offers of help or assistance with this would be much appreciated. Ideas for dates – possibly 16^th or 23^rd June. Watch this space.

We would just like to extend our thanks to everyone who came along to support the team last Sunday. I think you all had a good time- sorry we didn’t quite manage to bring home the trophy....we will do our best next season!

The boys were all a credit to you and AFC Waverton.

No training this Thursday. The Blacon 7 a side tournament is being held on the 27^th May.  No details have been supplied yet but we can only take 10 players. Can you confirm availability for the 27^th with one of us asap.

Cup Final Squad

Dear Team and Supporters,

Whilst we are only allowed to field a squad of 16 on Sunday we have decided to invite everyone along who is able to attend.

Everyone has made a contribution this season so we feel everyone should be given the chance to join us on the day. We will be asked to complete a squad list before the match starts so unfortunately some of the team will not be able to play but they should be able to come pitch side to be part of the team. If you have any concerns about this or are not able to attend then let one of us know.

We really need as much support as possible so bring any long lost relative- tell them  they must wear yellow and black and cheer for Waverton.

The Cup Final is here...and I don't mean the FA one

Dear Team and Supporters,

 

This coming Sunday (6^th May) sees us play Blacon at the Exacta Stadium- the home of Chester FC. It’s been a fantastic achievement to reach a cup final and win the league in our first season as a united Waverton team..... but we need to go there in the belief we can win....play with smiles and no fear.

KO is at 10.20am and we can go into the ground from 9.30am. Please can we meet in the main car park near to the ticket office at 9.20am. It will be very busy on the day and timings are very tight. Please don’t be late. Full Waverton kit with training tops. Drinks and snacks...and very clean boots (and early nights)

 

We are only allowed to use a playing squad of 16 for the match but I am hoping the entire squad will come in their Waverton kit. Everyone in the squad has played their part in us getting to this prestigious final .....and it should be a great celebration of a successful season for you all. The squad will be posted shortly. Can anyone who is definitely unavailable on Sunday please let us know as soon as possible.

                                                                                         

Training will take place this Thursday from 6pm at Waverton (please keep an eye on email as there may be matches on and we may need to change venue at relatively short notice) Some of you have to be at the Christleton High School summer camp meeting.

 

On match day we are also aware of the clash with Scout Camp. Our apologies for this. If there are any problems with attendance at the match please let one of us know asap.
