Match next friday

Dear Team and Supporters,

Thanks very much to those of you who managed to attend the training session last Saturday. For those of you who were unavailable we have arranged a friendly match against the U11’s this coming Friday at 6.30pm (Waverton Village Hall) Can you please be there for 6pm if possible to warm up and assist with putting up goals etc.

Some of you have been understandably concerned about the process we are having to go through in order to merge teams for next season. We can only reiterate what we have been asked to do by the Club....both the Rockets and Jets wouldn’t have had sufficient numbers for next year. Our options were limited if we were to ensure that as many boys stayed with AFC Waverton as possible and didn’t leave to join other teams...or possibly drop out of football altogether. The management team and club chairman have taken this process very seriously as we understand fully the implications of our actions. Ultimately we will have to make decisions on the squad composition based on a series of factors....strength in depth for each position, ability, loyalty, attitude and attendance at training/matches. We will aim to announce the squad as soon as possible over the next week.

To clarify we have 16 places available in the match squad and a further 4 places available for Associate Membership. Associate Members will be welcome to join all training sessions and will also have the opportunity to play in matches but not each week.

AFC Waverton Jets U12

Sorry...should have also said we aim to be finished by 11.30am at the latest.

AFC Waverton Jets U12

Dear Team and Supporters,

Thanks to those of you who have let us know you won’t be able to attend the training/trials session this coming Saturday 16th July. If you can’t make it for whatever reason can you let us know in advance please.

The session will start at 10am (at Waverton Village Hall) We will need some help with putting up goals so we will be there from 9.30am. We will also need your club registration documents on the day....please don’t forget these because our team will need to be registered by the 18th July.

The session will be supervised by Simon, Robin and Jason Roberts. Graham Frost the Club Chairman has also kindly offered to help out and advise.

We plan to do warm ups, a technical skills session and then have a match for at least 40 mins. Please bring boots and trainers just in case....along with drinks and a snack.

See you all there

Next Season

Dear Team and Supporters,

As you know we are currently in discussion with the Chairman of our club (Graham Frost) and the Rockets Coach (Jason Roberts) about the future of the U12 age grouping at AFC Waverton next season. At the moment both Rockets and Jets are under-staffed. Rockets have about 7/8 boys and we have about 12/13. This isn’t enough for the club to enter two teams into the league next season. Graham is very keen to ensure that all players, many of whom have been with the club for years, are able to continue to participate and remain with the club. To this end, we have been asked by the club to consider a full merger of the teams rather than us independently seeking additional players from elsewhere.

This could leave us with a large squad of players for next season- as many as 18-20 players. We are only allowed to register 16 in the league. Clearly this is a very challenging position to be in. Our team could continue and seek to recruit a few more players or, as is the club’s express wish, merge teams.

If we go ahead with the proposed merger we will need to choose a core squad of 16 players and offer Associate club membership (half price) to those players that don’t make the squad of 16. These players would take part in all training sessions and be substitutes at some or all of the games next season.

Clearly this is a really big decision for us but one that has to be made in the context of the wishes of players, parents and AFC Waverton as a whole. There is no easy solution so we are asking for your help and support in this process.

To move this forward, Robin, Jason and I will be holding two training sessions over the next few weeks. The first one will be on Saturday 16th July (10am Waverton Village Hall) This is a chance for players, parents and supporters to meet, for an hour’s training session to take place and for an assessment to be made of the different strengths and weaknesses of the squad. An overall judgement will be made which will also include past commitment to training and matches.  Graham Frost will also be there to answer any questions or queries from the Club’s perspective.

Robin and I would be happy to talk to any members of the Jets and Supporters prior to the session if there are any concerns. If for any reason you are unable to attend this session please let us know asap. The date for the second session will be announced shortly.
